As the mechanics worked out the problems with making Loki fly and turning the clever devices against their creators, tech crews worked steadfast on the Versailles’ bridge to create a place where Daria could once again pilot her ship, if only by remote. “It won’t be the same as being in the cockpit,” she lamented.

Raven stroked the small of her back as he stood behind her. “This way isn’t without its dangers. If you should take another hit by a ruptured suit…”

Daria turned around and placed her fingers against his mouth.

“Then we’ll return to Jevic, and high healer Raizen will have to put me to rights again.”

He took her hand and held it. “When next we return to Jevic we will stay at the country house and concentrate on nothing but pleasuring each other.”

A smile filled her face. “I like your plan better.”

His gaze lingered on her mouth, heating her blood to a boil. The man had the sexiest mouth she’d ever seen. Knowing intimately all the pleasure it could bring to her very sensitive female parts had her changing her stance a bit as the rough fabric of her uniform pants brushed against her.

Outside the view screen deep space plunged by as the ship hurtled toward the outskirts of the sector and drew closer to Gideon III. The Ramaclesus flew ahead and a little to starboard.

“Princess, we’re ready for you to try the relays,” a tech called to her.

“Oh, then I better get suited up.” She leaned up and brushed her mouth against Raven’s and squeezed his hand.

“Would you like to join me while I change?”

He followed her back to their quarters, silent but willing.

The suit hung in the corner of the room waiting for her to don it.

The entire idea of putting one of those enemy agents back on her body after nearly losing her life to one made her skin crawl. But there was no choice in the matter. It could be her and no other to fly this mission. For Lessia. For herself. And for Loki if she had to detonate the weapons.

Raven placed his hands on her shoulders as she contemplated the suit. “Second thoughts?”

“No. Just realizing how vulnerable we all were in the fleet.

Imagine wearing enemy weapons as close as our own skin, as intimate as our thoughts, and never suspecting it. If I had died in that attack, we would have never known. How many more pilots would have died?”

He slid his arms around her and rested her against the wall of his chest. “Too many.”
